어원 기록용 책

 10년 전에 군대에서 읽었던 책인데, 오래간만에 다시 꺼내본다. 개정도 되고 양도 많아졌고 기록용이다. 요샌 근데 chatgpt가 어원분석도 해주고 동의어도 불러주고 참 세상 좋아졌다. 

 1. The ego의 파생어원 - ego : 뜻 : I

  Egoist  : 자기중심적인 사람 (자신의 이익과 행복을 가장 중요하게 생각하는 사람)

  Egotist : 자기중심적인 사람 (자신이 우월하다고 생각하는 사람, 자아도취적 성격)

  Egocentric : 자기중심적인 것(사람) (다른 사람들의 관점

이나 감정을 고려하지 않는 사람, egoist의 극단)

  Egomaniac : 자기한테 미쳐있는 사람 (ego + maniac : 극도의 자기중심적 행동과 과대망상 등)

   * ad) egomaniacal  

 

 2. Others에서 나온 파생어원 alter 

  Altruism : 이타적인 사람, 남의 행복과 이익을 중요하게 여김  (Alter + -ism, altruists에 의함)
   * ad) Altruistic 

  Alternate : 번갈아 하는, 교대의, 번갈아 하다. '격주(alternate weeks)'를 표현할 때 쓰는 말
    ex) We decided to take alternate routes to avoid traffic jams.

          The dancers alternated between fast and slow movements. 

  Alternative : 대안, 대체, 대안의, 다른 선택지의

    ex) We need to find an alternative to plastic packaging.

  Alteration : 변경, 수정 

    ex) The tailor made some alterations to the suit to make it fit better.

  To alter : 변경하다, 수정하다, 바꾸다, 조정하다.

    ex) The designer decided to alter the dress to make it more fashionable.

    ex) Please alter the document to include the new data.

    ex) The chemicals can alter the color of the fabric.

    ex) She had to alter her plans due to unforeseen circumstances.

  Altercation : 다른 의견으로 인한 언쟁 (quarrel, disputants)

    ex) The two neighbors had a heated altercation over the property line.

    ex) I have altercations over pretty important issues (I was little bit excited)

  Alter ego : 다른 자아 (other I) = 두 번째 인격 혹은 엄청 친한 친구

    ex) In the superhero world, Bruce Wayne's alter ego is Batman.

    ex) My best friend is like my alter ego; she understands me better than anyone else.

 3. Depends how you turn  : 

   3-1. verto (=to turn)

   3-2. ambi (=both)

   3-3. dexter : right hand -> skillful

   3-4. sinister : left hand -> bad luck

   3-5. gauche : [GOSH] 

   3-6. droit : right hand [ french]

 

  Introvert : turn into 안으로 돎

  extrovert : turn out 밖으로 돎

  ambivert : 외향성과 내향성을 모두 가진 사람

  dexterous : 오른손의 -- 재주가 좋은

  dexterity : skill 

  ambidextrous : 양쪽이 다 오른손임 - 양손잡이의

  sinister : threatening, evil, dangerous

  a gauche : 서투른 사람

  gaucherie : awkward, clumsy, tactless, embarrassing 

  adroit : (=dexterous) skillful

  4. Love, hate, and marriage

  4-1. Misein(Greek) : to hate

  4-2. anthropos (Greek) : mankind

  4-3. gyne (Greek) : woman 

  4-4. gamos (Greek) : marriage

  4-5. philos (greek) : love

  4-6. andro (greek) : male

  misanthrope : hate mankind 사람을 싫어하는 사람, 인류를 혐오하는 사람 

  misogynist : 여자를 싫어하는 사람, 여성 혐오자

  misogamist : 결혼을 싫어하는 사람, 결혼에 대해 부정적인 태도를 가진 사람

  philanthropist : 인류애를 바탕으로 자선활동을 하는 사람 

  gynaecologist : 여성의 생식 건강을 전문적으로 다루는 의사? (우리나라는 산부인과 전문의?)

  monogamy : one marriage (관습적인)

  bigamy : 이중 결혼 (이혼 안 하고 )

  polygamy : 다처제나 다부제를 의미함.

  polygyny : 여러명의 여자 = 일부다처제 (한 남성이 여러 여성과 결혼)

  polyandry : 여러명의 남자 = 일처다부제 (한 여성이 여러 남성과 결혼)

  anthropologist : 인류학자 (문화, 사회, 언어, 생물학적 특성 등 연구)
